Delay Your Reaction

"I am convinced that life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% how I react to it" - Scipio Africanus

Our reactions determine whether we have a successful life or not. Life shall keep pouring down problems and opportunities; man's reactions to it determine the quality of man.

My sincere and heartfelt advice to you all would be to think before you react.

Give yourself one more second to think before you speak. Easier said than done, perhaps. One way to do that is to repeat what the other person said in your mind once before you react to it. It gives your mind precious seconds to re-analyze what has been said before speaking.

A delayed reaction increases logic and sense in your arguments. You are able to analyze the point from different angles before reacting. Hastily replying is not always the best option. This is the reason why interviewees are advised to take a second before they answer the interviewer's question. A delayed reaction makes for a measured, calculated and sensible response.

So the next time you reprimand your subordinate for an illogical argument or argue with your senior regarding any point, just take one second before you speak and watch people's respect for you increase.

Just try it out for one day. Make a conscious effort to delay your reaction when you speak. Just for one day and see the results for yourself. Hope you will try this out for your own betterment :-)
